As the rest of the NHL GM’s trip over themselves to sign free agent vagabonds, Nonis keeps trucking along down the frugality freeway. If you’re like me, you may have done a double take when the Canucks popped up on the wires yesterday, but it was just to announce that Lukas Krajicek signed a 2 year deal worth $2.2 million. If we add in the return of the brabarian, here’s how sexy the team looks on paper (heavy emphasis on ‘sexy’):
You can also scratch off a return tour for Smolinski, who signed a one year deal with the Habs yesterday. At the same time, the Canucks cut both Tyler Bouck and Prestin Ryan loose at the minor league level so don’t look for them in training camp. I have no idea what to make of this either.

TEH SCHNEIDS SIGNED WITH THE CANUCKS!! Then we did sign Brad Isbister and Byron Ritchie. Canucks.com has it on their press release.
Wow...look at us going for those small fish :)
Hey hey. There might be a Taylor Pyatt among those small fishies!!! XD;;;;;;
At least let's hope there's more Pyatt than like.. Santala.
I love that we're a team of projects with one of the best goalies in the back. I would love to be a fly on the wall of Luongo's apartment and hear his expression at "we got who?".
If nothing else, the Canucks keep it interesting. You can't argue against that.
Well, now that Isbister is signed on, we can add another underachieving "scorer." Although, if he turns out like Pyatt (albeit an older version), then at least we have some secondary scoring.
And we now have a backup goaltender and a few more signed low-profile guys. Still wishing some high profile free agent had come our direction, but I think Nonis has shown he can build a team, and I will trust him. I was upset last summer when he was destroying the Canucks that I had loved for so long. When he brought in Luongo I was furious, because the team had just finished the season on a 60game losing streak during which they scored only 3 goals or something horrid like that. As far as I could tell, scoring was the issue and bringing in a netminder was stupid.
But he got us back into the playoffs, and he found us Pyatt. Scoring is still a problem, but if he decides to fix it in his own, low-profile way, I'll back him. Too bad it leaves me shaking in my booties as I watch Colorado stock up on Smyths. I really which my team was easier to pick as a contender!
